YOUR FRIENDLY MODS. ([personal profile] therunning) wrote in [community profile] thewalking2017-06-26 11:15 am

A GRAVE MISTAKE.

Most people in Aqora have the necessities of self-preservation down to a science. Be careful, never go anywhere too dangerous, take the necessary precautions. Dress appropriately, take weapons with you, get the hell out of Dodge if things go wrong. Follow the rules. Keep your head down, pull your own weight. Stay out of the parking structures. Thing is, that's still only most people. Some, like Joshua Crank, think they know better than the rules. People like Joshua, who decide that whatever he can find inside cars below ground is more important than safety, that sneak past the barricades with a knife, flashlight, and backpack... Those people put the community in danger.

Those people get themselves killed.

Problem is that when Joshua comes back from his jaunt bit up to hell, he's got it covered with his jacket. It's not showing yet except for a light sheen of cold sweat all over but it's hot out so of course he's sweating. He manages to go a couple of hours without getting caught until he tries to go to the clinic to get some pain killers for his splitting headache and to try and get rid of some of the fever. It's a fool's errand of course and as soon as Kei sees the look of him, he knows. He makes him sit down, checks his vitals, rips off his jacket to see the bite - bloody and already swollen and infected and drooling pus. A look from the wound to the man's face back to the wound and Joshua is bolting out the door like it's going to save him. Kei only pauses long enough to grab a couple of things out of his desk before heading after him - he's surprisingly fast for someone of his stature and it's not long before Joshua is face-down on the asphalt kicking and screaming with the good doctor atop him, jamming a knee into his back to hold him in place.

"You know we have to do this," he says quietly, but if you're close enough you'll be able to hear him.

[ feel free to reply to this post in either prose or action brackets, we'll match you! this is set directly after the return of the group going to the reservoir, so right before dusk - about 7:00pm. it's just outside the clinic so if you're anywhere nearby, you're bound to notice it. post to either top level and kei or other characters can reply accordingly! you can note if you want one or the other or both in your subject line. ]

I suppose so.

[ he's a little surprised to find the young girl with so much gumption is a reporter. but it's not a bad surprise, really. anyway, it's not like mine is upset over this ordeal so her attempt to question him doesn't bother him at all. ]

To your understanding, why was this man killed?

[She knows the answer. She just wants to see what his impression of it was.]

Because he violated the rules of the settlement and was stupid enough to get himself bitten.

[ rules have consequences. ]

[It's not stupid to get bitten. Anyone can get bitten. It's stupid to let it get this far rather than taking care of the problem yourself, or finding someone to do it for you.

But Georgia's not here to share her opinion. She's here to get his. And when it comes down to it, the difference is pretty inconsequential.]

How long have you been here? Is this the first such incident you've witnessed?

A couple of days.

[ he knows that's not specific, but time doesn't feel specific right now, honestly. ]

This is the first incident I've witnessed like this, yes.

[She nods, scribbling down notes.]

Is this the first you've heard about the parking structure on sixth?

I've heard that the parking structures aren't safe, but that's the extent.

[ while he understands the inclination to keep things vague, it's always frustrating. he'd heard a little more about them from morna but that wasn't the common knowledge discussion. ]

[Not big on letting people know more than the bare minimum around here. Georgia hates it. While she doesn't have much power over the rest of the things about this place she hates, that much, at least, she can change.]

Any word on why they're unsafe?
