what: A nice party! And zombies.
who: Everyone is invited!
where: Some Starbucks and the walls.
warnings: Spam and zombies.

Today, there is a barbecue. It's mostly fruits and vegetables and like, Spam (tm), but the point here is that there is a CELEBRATION of WHATEVER because maybe it's the fourth of July? No one actually knows, but someone makes a good guess and starts up a barbecue. The people not native to the States won't care (and people that ARE don't care anymore either), but it's nice to have something to relax with and just spend some nice time. The whole setup is in the shaded outdoor cafe area of a Starbucks and the kids are playing with Nerf rifles because it gets them ready to kill zombies later (really). This is starting to sound like a commercial. Point is it's a nice day, a nice party, a nice fun time.

Until some chucklefuck sets off some fireworks they found. They're illegal in Aqora because the sound and light calls zombies and the use of them is restricted to runs as noisemakers and distractions - meaning not only have they broken the law, they've wasted valuable resources and dragged zombies to the wall. It's up to the strongest fighters in Aqora to clear the West wall before things get too bad. You can do it, survivors.

You can either reply to the mod top levels or make your own!

For any scouts or volunteers who are interested in lending a hand with finding wanted supplies (or who just wants to take a look at the conditions outside of Aqora for themselves), all four gates have been opened for the day. Newbies who want to venture out will be accompanied by a scout who knows the area whether they already have a partner or not. Everyone who leaves the premises will be required to sign their names on a log sheet before they're allowed out. The gates will be permanently closed at 10:00 P.M. If you're late, you're gonna have to figure out a way to survive on your own till morning, so, y'know, don't be late. No exceptions will be made. Supply runs are done once a week.

Weapons will be provided at the security building across the street from supplies. Unless you're trained in ranged weapons (and can prove it), you'll most likely receive a bladed one to carry with you. What you take, you will be expected to return by the end of the day. Yes, there is a log sheet.

While you're there, feel free to take a more in-depth look at the map of the region, marking the levels of threat in different parts of the city. If you need a practice area before you head out, you can use the training rooms to your heart's content.

No one's ever gonna keep you down (late June)

Gaju loped uphill, bypassing a straggling morning runner and a woman doing stretches on a little patch of green. He hadn't bothered taking time to slack off his routine, even after (especially after?) he'd woken up here. His typical training regimen back home could fairly be described as 'vomit-inducing' -- it took stamina to last through multiple heats, and it took strength and skill to keep his steps perfectly even while negotiating the delicate balance that was matching a partner's movements.

Most of all, it took self-control not to slug a dude in the face when he smashed into you on the floor. ON. PURPOSE.

He'd already been up for some hours just hitting the basics, so by the time he crossed what he'd decided was the finish line (a dented old lamppost that looked like it had seen better days), he threw his arms up like Leo and topped it off with an enthusiastic fist pump.

"Sh-bam! Ya heard that?!"

Most people in Aqora have the necessities of self-preservation down to a science. Be careful, never go anywhere too dangerous, take the necessary precautions. Dress appropriately, take weapons with you, get the hell out of Dodge if things go wrong. Follow the rules. Keep your head down, pull your own weight. Stay out of the parking structures. Thing is, that's still only most people. Some, like Joshua Crank, think they know better than the rules. People like Joshua, who decide that whatever he can find inside cars below ground is more important than safety, that sneak past the barricades with a knife, flashlight, and backpack... Those people put the community in danger.

Those people get themselves killed.

Problem is that when Joshua comes back from his jaunt bit up to hell, he's got it covered with his jacket. It's not showing yet except for a light sheen of cold sweat all over but it's hot out so of course he's sweating. He manages to go a couple of hours without getting caught until he tries to go to the clinic to get some pain killers for his splitting headache and to try and get rid of some of the fever. It's a fool's errand of course and as soon as Kei sees the look of him, he knows. He makes him sit down, checks his vitals, rips off his jacket to see the bite - bloody and already swollen and infected and drooling pus. A look from the wound to the man's face back to the wound and Joshua is bolting out the door like it's going to save him. Kei only pauses long enough to grab a couple of things out of his desk before heading after him - he's surprisingly fast for someone of his stature and it's not long before Joshua is face-down on the asphalt kicking and screaming with the good doctor atop him, jamming a knee into his back to hold him in place.

"You know we have to do this," he says quietly, but if you're close enough you'll be able to hear him.

[ feel free to reply to this post in either prose or action brackets, we'll match you! this is set directly after the return of the group going to the reservoir, so right before dusk - about 7:00pm. it's just outside the clinic so if you're anywhere nearby, you're bound to notice it. post to either top level and kei or other characters can reply accordingly! you can note if you want one or the other or both in your subject line. ]
